Trygve Allister - aka Trig - Diesen is a Norwegian-Scottish director and screenwriter, known for taking on thriller, crime and human drama projects. He is known for visceral, cinematic storytelling and emotional, yet grounded performances.
Trygve is currently (2023) directing all six episodes of the ambitious period drama To Cook a Bear for Anagram and Disney +. The mini is Disney’s first Nordic production. Gustaf Skarsgård leads the A-list Nordic cast, and the series is based on Mikael Niemi’s best selling novel.
S02 of the Irvine Welsh-penned dark and witty Crime will be released on ITVx in September 2023. Trygve directs the first three episodes of the second season, where Dougray Scott returns in his Emmy-winning performance, along with Joanna Vanderham, Ken Stott and John Sims.
Trygve directed/created and wrote Wisting, Scandinavian streamer Viaplay’s biggest hit to date. He directed all eighteen episodes, spanning three seasons, and was head writer/showrunner and creator as well as director. Sven Nordin and Carrie Anne Moss co-star in the series that has travelled extensively, including successful runs on BBC and ARD. The Wisting pilot was nominated for the Edgar Award, a first for a Scandinavian teleplay.
Of Norwegian and Scottish heritage, Diesen graduated magna cum laude from University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, and sold his first script two weeks out of film school. His second feature Hold My Heart (2002) was chosen as Norway’s submission to the Oscars. His third film and English-language debut Red (2008) premiered at Sundance, starring Brian Cox in an award-winning performance, with Kim Dickens and Tom Sizemore in other major roles.
Diesen directs TV with the same passion he brings to features and does so alternating between the role of conceptual and episodic director. He has helmed well over 100 episodes, spanning multiple genres, countries and languages.
In 2010, Trygve was the first to receive a practise-based doctorate in directing from The Norwegian Film School. He lives in Oslo, but travels wherever good projects take him.
