ABOUT

Trygve Allister Diesen is a writer-director with a taste for grounded storytelling and emotional tension. He loves working with actors.

Trygve’s created and directed some of the most successful Nordic crime dramas of the past two decades, including Wisting, Torpedo, Arne Dahl, and the upcoming Disney+ series To Cook a Bear. His international feature Red, starring Brian Cox and Tom Sizemore, premiered at Sundance and Edinburgh. He also directed episodes of The Assets, an American Cold War thriller for ABC, and Irvine Welsh’s Crime for ITV.

Earlier in his career, he wrote and directed Hold My Heart (Tyven Tyven), Norway’s official Oscar entry and a festival favourite, screening at over 30 festivals worldwide. His pilot script for Wisting earned him an Edgar Award nomination in the US.

Diesen works across Europe and the US, in both English and Scandinavian languages, often exploring guilt, justice and survival – with dark humour never far away.

He trained at USC in Los Angeles and holds a PhD in directing from the Norwegian Film School. Trygve is a dual citizen of Norway and the UK. Or as Irvine Welsh once put it: a “double Weegie” - Glaswegian and Norwegian.
